Help - Maintenance and Backups
Back To Index

  • Backing Up

It is important to make regular daily backups of your TruckBytes database. This can be backed up to floppy disk if the database is small enough, or zip drive, or to another folder on the computer that is then burned to a CD-R.

To back up your database, while at the main menu choose "File" "Backup Database". It will ask where to store the database backup. If you do not use a floppy or zip disk, it's important to still copy that backup directory to a separate storage media.

It is also a good practice to keep multiple backups and rotate them, for instance keep a daily backup for the entire week, and one backup from the previous Friday, giving you a total of 6 backups.

If your computer were to experience an error while using TruckBytes, it is possible your working copy could become corrupted and need restored from backup. Without regular backups, all of your data could be lost.

  • Database Maintenance

Another important step in maintaining a healthy database is regular database maintenance. A weekly or monthly database maintenance should be run. This is done from the main menu, select "File" and "Rebuild Database".
