First, choose the version of TruckBytes that you wish to run. If you intend to take advantage of assisted IFTA processing, download the "subscription" version. The "subscription" version will still allow you to participate in a trial period, after which you must purchase a subscription to continue.

If you only want simple tracking and invoicing, download the "free" version.

Windows:
Download and run the installer for the version you wish to use. Installation is straightforward. If you are updating from an older version, you can even install directly into the same directory to replace your old version without affecting your data.

Linux:
Download the installer for the version you wish to use. By default, it will not be "executable" after download. For most distributions, right click on the installer, and choose properties. Set the executable bit. Double-click the installer to begin.
It is not recommended to install as root. TruckBytes is designed to install and run from the user's home directory. After installation, it will attempt to place an icon on your destkop. Depending upon your distribution, you may need to create your own launcher icon that points to the "TruckBytes" file in the installation directory.
As with Windows, you can install a new or different version directly on top of your old version.

The first time you run TruckBytes, a wizard will appear offering to help you get started. If you need to restore your database from a backup, choose "Restore from backup" on the first page of the wizard.

By default, it will choose to store your database in a folder called "data" located where you installed TruckBytes. You can choose a different location to store your data. You can also pick the starting invoice number and load number.

Enter your license key as supplied in e-mail from www.TruckBytes.com. If you do not have a license key and have not chosen a password yet, click "I don't have a password" to be taken to the registration page.

Enter the license key that you were e-mailed, and enter the password you chose at registration time. Passwords are case sensitive. You must then click "Test my settings" to activate your account online. If you do not have Internet access at the time of activation, you will need to wait to run TruckBytes for the first time until you do. All installations must be activated online so that the proper features can be activated.
